William Sherman (February 8, 1820-February 14, 1891)
Role in the War: He was a Major General for the Union Army.
Contributions to History: He got part of the Confederate Army to surrender with terms that he did not pass by the President or the Cabinet. People saw him as a great strategist in the war. Pre-War: He was a Captain of the United States Army. He also worked in a bank as manager. He married a woman named Eleanor and they had eight children. Post-War: He was promoted to General of the Army, lieutenant general, then once Grant became president, he was promoted to Commanding General of the U.S. Army. |
